A home generator is essential. You shouldn’t wait for an electrical outage to get one. Although you would normally focus on either a portable model or a standby home generator choosing from the various price ranges, models and fuel types can be quite overwhelming.

The inverter generator is a recent addition to the portable line. It is different from the stand alone inverter which is an electrical device capable of converting 12-volt power into 120-volt power. Normally an inverter operates from a car battery or deep-cycle battery, is easy to operate but is unable to manage most emergency home situations.

The inverter generator is more powerful and adaptable, more fuel efficient, and quieter. It uses an alternator that is different from that of the portable generator and it comes with a digital inverter module. They are used primarily for recreational purposes such as with RV appliances and tailgating activities. In recent times significant improvements have been done to the Inverter Generator. This has resulted in it becoming very popular among consumers although it is more expensive than other generators.

The inverter generator is ideal for an electrical outage. It has the power, for example, to keep a refrigerator going but bear in mind that the more you require from it the more strain you place on the unit.

A new model has been introduced by Yamaha in 2010. It is specifically designed to handle heavy surges and powerful enough to start a 13,500 BTU air unit. Even though the inverter generator has a higher price tag features such as its fuel efficiency and quiet operation make them perfect for use with equipment such as computers, audiovisual and medical instruments.

So why should someone purchase an inverter generator rather than a cheaper portable one? If one understands the flow of electrical power then the answer would have been provided. The electricity supply will be disrupted or appliances will not perform satisfactorily if there was a fluctuation in the AC power in the generator. This has been corrected in the inverter generator where the raw power is transmitted through a microprocessor thus minimizing possible disruptions in its power source. Powerful rare earth neodymium magnets make it possible to operate at varying speeds without internal problems.
