The Defender – Our Home for the next 3 months
Our Land Rover is a Defender 110,Tdi Kalahari from 2007.We bought it 2nd hand about a year ago. The Kalahari model is without any electronics, computers/chips. It is almost all mechanical with some simple electrical parts. This is excellent for the trip as in the countries we are going through it is very hard to get spares for those “modern” gadgets. We had our car checked and serviced 2 times and replaced the alternator for a Bosch one,everything else was oke.
Following the advise of our Defender specialist, Schalkburger in Cape Town/Somerset West, we have a number of spare parts, the most crucial ones like filters,radiator hose,thermostat,fan belts,rad hoses,brake pads,wheel bearings, clutch master cy repair kit, a water pump, bulbs, fuses and of course the oils for a change after 10.000km
